Rounding up my Outreachy internship

Phew! It’s hard to believe that 3 months have passed already. My Outreachy internship finished 1 month ago (Sorry, I’m a bit late with this blogpost because of Coronavirus-related issues). The internship experience turned out to be enlightening and educational. Everything I wanted and more.

When I started my internship, I was worried about not keeping to the timeline. There was so much stuff to learn and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, thinking I won’t know enough to complete the required tasks. Surprisingly, I finished my internship on time. Well, not quite. I finished 2 days after the March 3rd. Good enough for me :). The internship involved my communication, teamwork and writing skills. In addition, I learned how to work remotely, a skill that will come in handy in the future. After working remotely for three months, I can’t imagine ever working in an office again 😀

There were times that I felt stuck on a problem, and thank goodness my mentors were there to help me. I had to learn a lot of technical concepts about the Tor Network. Even though I had to do a lot of reading on my own, there were times when the concepts were too complicated to understand on my own. My mentors were available to teach me.

Before Outreachy, I had only contributed to a few FOSS projects. After Outreachy, I intend to ramp up the intensity of my contributions. There’s a great feeling that comes with every merged PR. My advice to anyone thinking of applying to Outreachy, just do it! The experience is worth it!
